In the framework of the construction project Imeritinskaya Riviera, which will host guests and athletes of the Winter Olympic Games in 2014, Altius Development and the European companies ARCADIS ad RTKL, and also the Russian company Ecostandard co-developed a project to preserve the nesting habitat of 168 types of migratory birds, which fly through this area en route to their wintering ground. The project will oversee the creation of a special dendropark which will become a tourist site in Sochi.

Before construction began on the new housing complex Juntolovo in Saint Petersburg, the Swedish architecture bureau Tovatt Architects & Planners AB undertook measures to minimize the building's impact on the surrounding environment. The conceptual design of Johannes Tovatta envisioned the creation of large green zones on the territory of the Juntolovo complex. (For this reason the people have awarded the project its second "Bear Paw" award.) The project minimizes human impact on the variety of mosses, lichens and other forms of flora and fauna in that neighborhood.

When new facilities in the cement industry are built, Basic Element will focus on the so-called dry-mix process of producing cement. Using this new technology in the processing of raw materials, energy consumption will decrease by a factor of two due to the use of modern equipment to grind the raw material.
